Sacred Symbols of the Ancients

"Sacred Symbols of the Ancients:

The Mystical Significance of Our Fifty Two "Playing" Cards and Their Amazing Connection with Our Individual Birthdays"

by Edith L. Randall and Florence Evylinn Campbell, M.A.

"Sacred Symbols of the Ancients"

by Edith L. Randall and Florence Evylinn Campbell, MA

"Sacred Symbols of the Ancients: The Mystical Significance of our Fifty Two "Playing" Cards and Their Amazing Connection with our Individual Birthdays" is one of the original books on Cardology and helped lay the foundation of the ancient mystical science of playing cards in our world today. This book explores how your birth date reveals much about you, your environment, and your daily life. Authors Randall and Campbell present these insights in a simple, easy-to-understand format and in well-organized chapters.

Using your birth date, and interpreting it through the fifty-two (plus the Joker) playing cards, one can discover so much about themself and the important people in their life. Birth dates mathematically equate to playing cards, which are linked through the various colors, suits, and numbers.

Randall and Campbell were very close, lifelong friends and were taught together by Arline L. Richmond, the adopted daughter of the Grand Master of the Order of the Magi, Olney H. Richmond. Randall and Campbell first started teaching this work in N. Hollywood, CA in the 1930’s working with a mimeographed version of SSA until 1947 when they were able to print the original in its comb-bound format. These dynamic women were later instrumental in assisting and developing the careers of many Los Angeles area astrologers, tarot readers, and mystics for several decades.

"Sacred Symbols of the Ancients (Supplement)"

by Edith L. Randall and Florence E. Campbell

There are four full editions of "Sacred Symbols of the Ancients: 1947, 1974, 1989, and 2018, and a "Sacred Symbols of the Ancients (Supplement)" published in 1989.

1947:  First edition published by Tora, Inc.

1974:  Second edition published by DeVorss & Co., Publishers

1989:  New, expanded (adding two new pieces), the original Supplement of the Progressed Sun Charts (Age Cycle Cards) and the full set of 90 Spreads, which was only privately issued to their students along with a Cycles system [which does contains a minor misnumbering of the 7-Years Cycles].

1989:   "Sacred Symbols of the Ancients Supplement" published by DeVorss & Co., Publishers

2018:   Fourth edition published by the American Federation of Astrologers

[Notice: According to the late IAC Founding Member and Archivist Historian lain McLaren-Owens, the AFA (American Federation of Astrologers) in Tempe, Arizona published an illegitimate version of SSA with a different cover for around $22. There are typos, poor lay-out, small type face, no full color spreads in the back, and errors in the spreads. This is a print-on-demand publication.]

Currently, there is one used physical copy of the 1974 edition of "Sacred Symbols of the Ancients" available for purchase in our Online Store:

"God always speaks twice. Through stars and numbers, God speaks to us of the truths we need to know."

~ Florence Evylinn Campbell

About Edith L. Randall

Edith L. Randall was an American author, teacher of card symbolism, and a professional astrologer. Randall was born on October 31, 1896 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. Her card was the Four of Hearts♥. She had been a member of the American Federation of Astrologers since 1940.

Edith L. Randall and Florence Evylinn Campbell were life-long friends who were known as authorities on astrology, cartomancy, numerology, and tarot. Together they co-authored "Sacred Symbols of the Ancients" which they published privately in 1947. The system they teach in the book is in part drawn from the teachings of Olney H. Richmond, head of the Chicago-based "The Order of the Magi" with whom Edith L. Randall was connected. Randall was a long-term student of one of Richmond's original followers. "Sacred Symbols of the Ancients" is generally highly regarded in the world of Cardology and curiously is said online to be a favourite book of American singer, songwriter, and producer Stevie Nicks of the band Fleetwood Mac.

"Edith L. Randall's Your Place in the Cards"

Author Donalie Fitzgerald (Seven of Diamonds 7♦) was a student of Edith Randall and wrote the book, "Edith L. Randall's Your Place in the Cards." Fitzgerald provided some information about her teacher inside the back dustcover of her book, "Edith L. Randall has been a professional astrologer for 38 years. She has clients all over the United States and has taught and lectured on astrology and card symbolism. Formally, Randall had been chief accountant for a national business firm, and her mathematical background helped her to devise the unique formula presented here. Miss Randall born in Minneappolis, Minnisoda, but has resided in Los Angeles for over 60 years."

Fitzgerald also wrote "Edith L. Randall has been the most patient with my walking. She is intensely grey and will admit to being "older than you think," but she is a strict and just guide and a warm and beautiful human being. She has given me strange fruit, and the juice has titillated me beyond the point of no return."

Edith L. Randall died on November 16, 1978, Hollywood, CA., USA at the age of 81.

Florence Evylinn Campbell

Florence Evylinn Campbell (born October 27, 1878 - Eight of Hearts♥) is known in the world of Cardology and playing cards as the co-author of "Sacred Symbols of the Ancients " with Edith L. Randall from the 1940s. What some may not know is that Campbell was recognized as one of the most intellectual and perceptive authorities on the application of numbers to everyday life. A life-long mystic, she was characterized by an inquiring mind and an unappeasable curiosity about life and science.

Campbell was an astrologer for 25 years before exploring numerology and was on the forefront of both esoteric sciences which she expanded with her personal knowledge and commitment to the spiritual side of numerology and its impact on life.  Campbell authored two numerology books on her own, "Your Days are Numbered" and "Your Numbers."

Experts will be fascinated by the advanced studies. What are the secrets of the "Science of Numbers" as practiced by the Ancients? How can they influence our lives? What is the power of your Name Number? How significant is the number that rules your Personal Year? How does your Birthdate Number define your potentialities and point the way to achieving your aspirations? YOUR DAYS ARE NUMBERED and this book shows how and why. The book concludes with some interesting theories that Campbell left open to future research.

From Edith Randall and Evylinn Campbell's Personal Library

"THIS IS YOUR DESTINY"

A rare, antiquarian book titled, "This Is Your Destiny" was part of the personal library of Edith L. Randall and Florence Evylinn Campbell, authors of "Sacred Symbols of the Ancients", who lived in North Hollywood, California, USA.

"This Is Your Destiny" by Norman Austin Leech, Canadian architect and engineer, is a metaphysical study, strongly tying into British Israelism. The work, broken into seventeen parts, is an agglomeration of esoteric Biblical and Egyptological analysis, historical chronology, prophecy, and the drawing of signal correlations regarding the identity and fate of nations. Written during the Second World War, "This Is Your Destiny" includes perspectives concerning contemporary political changes.

Published in 1945 by DeVorss & Co., Los Angeles, CA USA, "This is Your Destiny," was based on Leech's forty years of research and copyrighted by him just two months before his death.

This is Your Destiny is now available for purchase in the IAC Online Store:

Edith Randall and Evylinn Campbell's Personal Library

Authors Edith L. Randall and Florence Evylinn Campbell maintained a combined personal library of over 2500+ books in their home in Los Feliz, California, USA. Their library was owned for a time by June Sears Rogers (1914 - 2009) from whom's estate the library was sourced. Each of the three women lived in the Los Feliz residence, which is likely how the library was transferred intact over the course of five decades.

As mentioned above, Florence and Edith together wrote and published "Sacred Symbols of the Ancients" in 1947. They also wrote and published other books separately. All of their titles sold well and were taken to several printings. After Florence and Edith's passing, June aquired the copyright and re-issued "Sacred Symbols" in 1989.

The dymanic pair of Florence and Edith was instrumental in assisting and developing the careers of many Los Angeles area astrologers, tarot readers, and mystics for several decades. As would be expected, their library was rich with content and depth in numerous areas, including numerology, mysticism, theosophy, tarot, astrology, hermeticism, magic, Rosicrucian study, Kabalah/Kabbalah/Qabalah, and many other topics. There was also a number of signed and inscribed volumes from the respective authors to one or both of these women.

People around the world are now blessed with the opportunity to learn from two of the Los Angeles area's most prominent alterative spiritual leaders and authors who broadened the comprehension and insight into matters astrological, cardoloical, numerological, and spiritual for a large portion of the 20th century.

Most of their books are available for purchase in our IAC Online Store under their respective names, Edith L. Randall and Florence Evylinn Campbell.
